Before his semi-retirement in early 2009, Brian Sharp was our Managing Director. He joined the firm in 1974. Brian had a strong background in all facets of Real Estate. In the 1970’s he was a director of the Victoria Real Estate Board. The 1980’s saw him contribute as a director of the Victoria Real Estate Board. Over this time many committees and task forces have benefited from Brian’s efforts.

Much of Brian’s free time has been directed to the Queen Alexander Children’s Society. In a twelve year period Brian held many positions including Chairman of the Board. Brian has also served on the Board of the Queen Alexander Foundation.

DFH, now with 160 full-time agents at the firm's Saanich headquarters and offices in Langford, Sidney and Shawnigan Lake, was essentially run by Peter Gaby, Mike Nugent and Kevin Sing, who all joined Sharp as partners in January 2008.

Nugent moved from sales to the role of managing broker with Susan Dunn, and both were responsible for all daily operations. Gaby and Sing continued to lead DFH's planning and marketing departments as well as maintaining their active real estate businesses.

Originally known as Saanich Realty, Dominic Hanley changed the name to D.F. Hanley Agencies 48 years ago. It became known as DFH Realty in 1976 when Sharp and Jack Clover bought the firm.

Sharp became sole owner and managing director in 1997 and brought his three partners aboard last January.

Nugent said the reorganization allowed DFH to develop new mentorship and coaching programs for its Realtors that would generate growth in the challenging years ahead.

"We recognized the change in the market in 2007 and while DFH has grown significantly in the past few years we realized that our Realtors needed new and better tools to better serve the public," said Nugent. "We searched North America for solid components to provide our team so they can deliver gold medal service reflecting the extra effort, dedication and the education that today's Realtor needs to provide the best service to our clients."

A History of DFH

DFH Real Estate Ltd. Now and Then

Victoria’s largest independently, locally owned Real Estate Company can trace it’s history to the early 1950’s. The location was on Quadra St. near Reynolds Rd.

The company moved to Douglas St. near the corner of Cloverdale

Saw a 2nd location on Shakespeare St

Douglas St. and Shakespeare St. merged into one large location at McKenzie and Shelbourne St.

Our present freestanding building was built on Shelbourne St

Saw Cathy Duncan and Jeff Patrick's Century 21 office on Jacklin and Sooke Rd merged and become our office in the Westshore. Both Cathy and Jeff are vital contributors to the DFH team

John Bruce’s Realty World’s Sidney Real Estate merged and we are proud to say John is a prominent force in our Saanich Peninsula presence

DFH opened our Kiosk in Victoria’s largest mall – Hillside Shopping Centre.

We expanded by merging again, this time with Sue Lyle and Coldwell Banker – Shawnigan Mill Bay Realty. Both Sue and Sherry are excellent ambassadors for DFH in the South Cowichan area.

Our Philosophy

Our force of over 100 salespeople are united under a banner of common purpose: To Offer "Golden Rule" Service.

While individually driven to maximize the number of sales they make, our company obliges its sales force to ensure fair dealings between its agents and its clients. Our company has forged its reputation by attracting and keeping these like-minded salespeople.

Our company has a wider vision than that of simply a fair-dealing real estate agency. We see community involvement as the foundation of maintaining a solid, healthy business in the Greater Victoria area. It is not enough to make general statements of caring and concern for the communities in which we operate. Direct action by management and salespeople are the true measuring stick of commitment.
